On Friday, Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, officially dissolved his cabinet just five days before the end of his eight-year tenure.
His administration will hand over to Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, November 12.
The dissolution followed a valedictory session at the Government House in Benin City, which was marked by emotional speeches, standing ovations, and commendations from council members.

The session reflected on the government’s achievements over the past eight years, highlighting its contributions to improving the livelihoods of the people, advancing the state’s economic prosperity, and fostering progress.
The Deputy Governor, Godwin Omobayo, motioned for the dissolution of the 2020-2024 State Executive Council, a motion seconded by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Osilama Okuofu.
During the session, Governor Obaseki praised members of the State Executive Council for their dedication in helping to realize his vision of making Edo great again.
He also expressed his gratitude to the people of the state for their support, prayers, and collaboration, which he credited with the success of his administration across various sectors.
Council members took turns eulogizing the Governor, acknowledging his achievements in education, the economy, agriculture, power, and infrastructure, among other areas.
They also thanked him for the opportunity to serve, noting that the reforms and projects under his leadership had positively impacted the lives of Edo people, positioning the state as a model of growth and development for others to emulate.
As the session drew to a close, outgoing commissioners and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) presented awards and gifts to Governor Obaseki, honoring his exemplary leadership. The evening concluded with a dinner held in the Governor’s honor.
