The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has officially affirmed Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The Court upheld the National Industrial Court’s ruling from March 11, 2024, in Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023, which had earlier recognized Baruwa as the union’s president.
The appellate court also dismissed the appeal filed by Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, and others, who had challenged the Industrial Court’s decision.
The court found their appeal to be without merit.

A three-member panel of Justices — Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi — ruled in favor of Baruwa, reaffirming his position as the duly elected President of NURTW.
Additionally, the Court of Appeal ordered the appellants, who are supporters of MC Oluomo, to pay a fine of N100,000 to the respondents.
In response, Baruwa held a press conference where he condemned the inauguration of MC Oluomo, describing it as both “laughable” and a direct affront to the judiciary.
He emphasized that the action violated the March 11 and November 8 rulings from both the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal, which had prohibited the Yasin-led faction from interfering with the union’s activities and the daily operations of the Baruwa-led NURTW leadership.
Baruwa reiterated that the NURTW is governed by a constitution approved by law, which outlines the procedures for elections to union offices.
He called on the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation to intervene and ensure the enforcement of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, in the interest of peace, order, and the rule of law.
