Tinubu Reacts As Port Harcourt Refinery Commences Crude Oil Processing, Gives Fresh Directive To NNPCL

President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, highlighted by the official commencement of petroleum product loading on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, the president acknowledged the crucial role of former President Muhammadu Buhari in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of the country’s refineries.

He also expressed gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for its confidence in financing this vital project.

Additionally, President Tinubu commended the leadership of NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his unwavering dedication and commitment, which were pivotal in overcoming challenges to reach this milestone.

With the successful revival of the Port Harcourt refinery, President Tinubu urged NNPC Limited to accelerate the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery, as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

“These efforts will significantly enhance domestic production capacity alongside the contributions of privately-owned refineries and make our country a major energy hub, with the gas sector also enjoying unprecedented attention by the administration,” the statement added.

The president emphasized his administration’s resolve to repair the nation’s refineries, expressing his commitment to eliminating the discouraging image of Nigeria as a major crude oil producer unable to refine its resources for domestic use.

Stressing the importance of patience, integrity, and accountability in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, President Tinubu urged individuals, institutions, and citizens entrusted with responsibilities to stay focused and maintain trust in their service to the country.

In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims for shared economic prosperity, the president reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to achieving energy sufficiency, enhancing energy security, and expanding Nigeria’s export capacity.
