Technical Issue Shuts Out Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Users

Users of Meta’s social media apps were locked out worldwide on Wednesday evening as the company dealt with a “technical issue.”

Frustrated Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to report the widespread outage affecting all three platforms owned by Mark Zuckerberg’s tech empire.

Downdetector also recorded significant spikes in outage reports, with Instagram seeing 70,000 more than usual, while Facebook experienced over 100,000 reports of disruptions.

“We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps,” Meta said in an X post. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”
