The law firm Banwo & Ighodalo has taken final steps to initiate legal action against Jarrett Tenebe, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, following defamatory statements made against its founding partner, Asue Ighodalo.
In a letter dated December 18, 2024, and signed by Abimbola Akeredolu (SAN), the firm condemned Tenebe’s claims as “libelous, reckless, and unfounded.”
This follows Tenebe’s recent comments in an interview, where he alleged that Ighodalo “stole 21 government vehicles” from the Edo State Government.
Despite a letter sent on December 11 demanding an immediate retraction and apology, the defamatory accusations have persisted.
Tenebe has now been given three days to retract the statements, or formal legal action will commence.

In a separate statement, the Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO), represented by Erhabor Emokpae, vehemently denied the allegations, calling them part of a calculated smear campaign aimed at distracting the public and damaging Mr. Ighodalo’s reputation.
TAMO clarified that Alaghodaro, which Ighodalo chaired, is a private-sector-led initiative designed to drive economic growth and investment in Edo State.
The statement also defended Ighodalo’s integrity, noting that he has personally funded his expenses over the course of his 16 years in public service, including his time as Chairman of Alaghodaro.
The allegations regarding the theft of government vehicles were described as baseless, absurd, and unsupported by any evidence.
Banwo & Ighodalo reiterated its commitment to pursuing all legal options if the defamatory statements are not retracted within the given timeframe.
The firm emphasized that the manipulation of misinformation for political advantage undermines public trust and harms democratic institutions.
It called on all parties to uphold truth, integrity, and decency in public discourse.
