FG Slashes Interstate Transport Fares By 50%

The Federal Government has announced a 50% reduction in interstate transport fares for the Yuletide season to help ease travel costs for Nigerians journeying home to celebrate Christmas and New Year.

Olujimi Oyetomi, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Transportation, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

“To commence the 2024 Yuletide road transportation, passengers will board buses to their destinations for only 50% of fares, as declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.

The initiative, announced by President Bola Tinubu, is part of a broader effort to provide transportation relief for Nigerians traveling during the Christmas and New Year holiday season.

The signing ceremony was led by the Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, who was represented by Adeleye Adeoye, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Federal Government and key transportation stakeholders, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, the Association of Luxury Bus Owners of Nigeria, and God is Good Motors.

As part of the agreement, passengers traveling from Abuja and Lagos (Oshodi) to various destinations across the country will enjoy a 50% discount on regular fares.
