A man, his wife, and their grandson were tragically killed in a house fire in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident occurred at 3:46 PM on Friday in the Ori-Eru area of Idikan.

CSP Olaniyan Jibola of the Mapo Division confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that upon arrival at the scene— a six-room residential storey building— it was determined that the victims perished while trying to warm their room with an open flame due to the cold weather.

“On arrival,  we met an upper floor of a storey residential building of six rooms on fire.  We swiftly swung into action and the fire was completely extinguished.

“They slept off after putting on the fire,” the statement said.

In addition to the three deceased individuals found in the fire, five people were successfully rescued from the building.

Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the ground floor of the building or to neighboring properties.

The police team, with assistance from an Amotekun unit led by Gbenga Akinyemi from the North West Division, played a key role in bringing the situation under control.
