In a statement of condolence, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, extended his deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives, with special mention of the women, elderly, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children who were affected by this tragic incident.
The statement, issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime on Saturday conveyed the government’s heartfelt grief.

It also provided details on the event, noting that the Obi Jackson Foundation, headed by Chief Ernest Obiejesi, had organized the initiative with the noble aim of distributing relief materials to less privileged members of the community during the festive season.
However, the devastating outcome of the event highlights the urgent need for a more structured and secure approach to delivering such aid.
In response to the tragedy, the Anambra State Government has swiftly launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stampede.
