The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered all government hospitals to provide free medical treatment to those injured in the stampede that occurred at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja.
The directive was issued in a statement on Saturday, signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka.
The tragic incident, which took place around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, resulted in the deaths of at least 10 people, including children, and left 10 others injured.

The stampede occurred during a food distribution event for the less privileged and elderly organized by the church.
Minister Wike assured that the FCT Administration would ensure the injured receive the necessary medical care.
He also expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, and announced that, moving forward, police permission would be required for any public distribution of palliatives, whether food or cash.
Describing the incident as “painful,” Wike offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and for strength for their grieving families.
He commended the police and other security agencies for their prompt intervention, saying, “The promptness in which security agencies responded to the incident was commendable.”
