He highlighted Carter’s steadfast commitment to noble causes such as peace, democracy, and the fight against tropical diseases, leaving a lasting legacy on the world.

“President Carter showed us all how to remain relevant and impactful after leaving the esteemed position of President of the United States,” Tinubu remarked in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

“He tackled the challenges the developing world faced, from combating diseases to mediating conflicts and promoting democratic values. He exemplified grace, dignity, and a profound respect for humanity.”

Tinubu hailed Jimmy Carter as a trustworthy and compassionate friend to Nigeria, commending his substantial contributions through The Carter Center.

He specifically acknowledged Carter’s pivotal role in combating Guinea worm disease and river blindness in Nigeria, efforts that have greatly improved the lives of many Nigerians.

The Nigerian leader also expressed hope that Carter’s enduring legacy of decency, integrity, and humanity—both during his presidency and beyond—would continue to inspire not only Americans but leaders across the globe to embody the true spirit of leadership.
