Fubara Signs ₦1.1tn Rivers 2025 Budget Into Law, Makes Fresh Declaration On Amaewhule And 26 Other Lawmakers Who Defected From PDP To APC

In a speech following the signing ceremony on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Governor Fubara expressed his gratitude to the State Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, for their diligent work in passing the bill.

The governor emphasized that the only legitimate House of Assembly in the state is the one under Oko-Jumbo’s leadership.

This statement came as Fubara signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, just a week after submitting it to the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly.

Fubara further declared that Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would no longer be recognized as legislators, despite their recent attempts to retract their actions.

The Amaewhule faction, which is aligned with former Rivers governor and current Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been in conflict with Fubara.

The governor stressed that, despite giving the defectors ample time to reconsider, their disqualification is final and irreversible.

Fubara noted that no governor in Nigeria has endured as much disrespect as he has, but affirmed his commitment to leading Rivers State toward greater progress.

The 2025 budget, which runs until December 31st, includes 12 sections outlining the state’s planned expenditure.
