Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi has clarified that no merger agreement has been reached with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), or any other political party.
The former governor of Anambra State made this statement during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday morning, where he addressed the current state of the nation.
He emphasized that no formal alliance has been established with any other party as of now.
Obi called on all Nigerians who are passionate about the country’s future to unite in 2027 to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of mismanaging the nation’s resources.

Obi also expressed concern about the worsening security situation in Nigeria, which he described as tragic, as many lives are lost unnecessarily due to banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping for ransom.
He further highlighted the persistent high levels of corruption in the country and criticized the increasing cost of governance, which has contributed to a significant rise in public debt under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The LP candidate also accused government officials of irresponsibly mismanaging public funds, citing their frequent foreign trips in 2024 as an example.
In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu emerged victorious in 12 out of Nigeria’s 36 states, securing 8,794,726 votes—nearly two million more than his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, who garnered 6,984,520 votes.
Obi, in his first presidential bid, achieved an impressive 6,101,533 votes. NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, finished fourth with 1,496,687 votes after winning his home state of Kano.
Notably, both Obi and Kwankwaso were once members of the PDP before leaving the party, citing irreconcilable differences.
