The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed his condolences to the family of the late retired Major General Godwin Osagie Abbe, a former military governor of Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
Abbe served as the Governor of Rivers State from 1990 to 1992, before the creation of Bayelsa State on October 1, 1996.
He also held the positions of Minister of Interior and Minister of Defence between 1988 and 1992.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Yenagoa by his spokesperson, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri described Abbe as a dedicated and professional military officer who demonstrated unwavering commitment to the service of his country.
He said, “His passing is a loss not only to his family, his community and Edo State, but also the country, given his track record of dedicated and selfless pursuit of a greater and united Nigeria.
“General Abbe was noted for his brilliance and upholding of the highest traditions of the Armed Forces while protecting the territorial integrity of our country.”
Diri, conveying the condolences of the government and people of the state, encouraged the Abbe family to find solace in his enduring legacies of integrity, patriotism, and his significant contributions to national development.
