Former Aide Akande Response When Asked If Osinbajo Has Left APC, Politics

Mr. Laolu Akande, spokesperson for former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has dismissed rumors suggesting that Osinbajo has left politics or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos, Akande, who previously served as Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity, clarified that these speculations are unfounded.

Although Osinbajo has remained largely inactive in politics since completing his tenure in 2023, this has led to rumors about his departure from the APC and political life.

Osinbajo had contested the APC presidential primary in 2022 but lost the party’s ticket to President Bola Tinubu.

Yemi Osinbajo previously served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, under then-Governor Bola Tinubu.

While some political analysts speculate that Osinbajo’s perceived retreat from politics is due to his defeat in the APC primary, others believe he may be focusing more on his role as a Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet.

When asked by NAN about his former principal’s political future, Akande explained that he would refrain from offering personal commentary on Osinbajo’s choices.

He stressed that Osinbajo had not communicated any decision to leave politics and, to his knowledge, remains a member of the APC.

Akande further stated that Osinbajo would attend any APC event that required his participation.

“I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC. He is still a member of the APC.

“If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t know anything about him leaving the party,” Akande said.
