The incident began when Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study Teacher and General Secretary, claimed that a church member had noticed Ajayi acting suspiciously near a river.

The member notified others after Ajayi threw a bag into the river, which was later recovered and discovered to contain his girlfriend Adaidu’s decapitated head.

Ajayi, who acknowledged to the crime, stated that he killed Adaidu after discovering she was cheating on him.

However, the deceased’s relatives denied his claims, claiming that Adaidu was never in a relationship with Ajayi and was supposedly kidnapped, rather than visiting him as early stories stated.
