Court Takes Fresh Decision In Rivers Assembly Crisis

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned the adoption of all court processes in the suit filed by the Pro-Fubara members of the Rivers State House of Assembly against the 27 Pro-Wike lawmakers to February 17, 2025.

The Pro-Fubara lawmakers are challenging the legitimacy of the 27 other members who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During yesterday’s hearing, Ferdinand Orbih, counsel for Martin Amaewhule and 14 others, informed the court that some of the filed documents were missing from the case file.

He requested an adjournment to locate the missing documents, a request that was not opposed by the other parties.

Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dagogo Israel-Iboroma, also urged the judge to instruct all parties to verify and regularize their processes at least four days before the next hearing to avoid further delays.

The judge accepted this request.

After considering the submissions, Justice Emmanuel Obile granted the adjournment and scheduled the next hearing for February 17, 2025, for the adoption of all processes filed in the case.
