President Bola Tinubu has left Abuja for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit on January 27-28, 2025.
The event is organized by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank.

According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will join other African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society groups in Dar es Salaam to discuss ways to accelerate energy access across the continent.
The summit aims to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources to tackle Africa’s energy challenges.
Key topics will include expanding energy access in underserved areas, promoting renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and attracting private sector investment.
On the first day, Nigeria and other countries will present their national energy strategies, or compacts, outlining plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.
On the second day, heads of state will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will serve as a unified roadmap toward achieving the Mission 300 goals for Africa’s energy future.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy sector.
Accompanying the president are the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; and the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen.
