Trump Announces ‘Emergency 25% Tariffs’ Against Colombia After Country Turned Back Deportation Flights

President Donald Trump has announced tariffs on Colombia after two repatriation flights carrying undocumented migrants were refused entry into the country, according to a post on his Truth Social network on Sunday.

This marks the first retaliatory measure by the Trump administration against a foreign nation over immigration matters.

Trump revealed that a 25% tariff would be imposed on all goods imported from Colombia, with the rate set to rise to 50% in a week.

In response, Colombian President Gustavo Petro declared on Sunday that he would halt U.S. deportation flights, stating that the U.S. “can’t treat Colombian migrants like criminals.”

Flight tracking reports indicated that two U.S. military flights bound for Colombia were turned back after Petro publicly announced he would block American planes carrying Colombian migrants.

Trump criticized Petro’s decision, calling it a threat to U.S. national security and public safety, and argued that Colombia’s refusal to accept the flights violated international commitments to accept repatriated criminals.
