Reigning champions Real Madrid will face 2023 winners Manchester City in the standout matchup of this season’s Champions League play-off round, following Friday’s draw.
This marks the fourth consecutive year the two teams have been drawn against each other in a knockout tie, with Real Madrid defeating City in a penalty shootout in last season’s quarter-finals.
City, who narrowly progressed after finishing 22nd in the league phase of the new competition format, will host the first leg before traveling to Spain for the second leg.
In other matchups, Celtic will face six-time European champions Bayern Munich, after the Scottish side reached the knockout stage for the first time in 12 years.
Paris Saint-Germain will take on surprise team Brest in an all-French clash, while Juventus will play PSV Eindhoven, and Feyenoord will face AC Milan in two encounters between former competition winners.
Last season’s Europa League champions, Atalanta, who finished just outside the top eight for direct entry into the last 16, will meet Club Brugge of Belgium.
Sporting CP will play last season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund, and Monaco will face Benfica, after losing to the Portuguese club in the league phase.
The play-off ties will take place next month, with the eight winners advancing to the last 16 alongside the top eight teams from the league phase.
Teams already confirmed in the last 16 include Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, and Aston Villa.
