Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he has been a member of since its establishment in 1999.
In a resignation letter submitted to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, dated January 30 and seen on Friday, the senator expressed his dissatisfaction with the party’s current state, highlighting significant divisions and irreconcilable factions as the main reasons for his decision to leave.
“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalisation within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko stated.

The senator further lamented recent events that underscored the party’s internal strife.
“Just this week, precisely on the 29th of January, the top party functionaries degenerated to the lowest levels by physically fighting themselves arising from the stated factions, which have become irreconcilable,” he revealed.
Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunity it gave him during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, enabling him to connect directly with his constituents.
Nevertheless, he emphasized his dedication to fulfilling the campaign promises he made, a goal he feels has been obstructed by the party’s current structure in Delta State.
“Regrettably, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realising these promises. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people,” he added.
Although he has resigned, Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents and promoting their interests.
“While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship,” he said.
The senator, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, stressed that his decision was made with the best interests of his constituents in mind.
“My decision is rooted in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he added.
Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership and its members for their support throughout the years, wishing the party success in its future efforts.
