Nigeria Ranks In World Most Corrupt Countries In 2024 [FULL LIST]

Transparency International, a global anti-corruption organization, has ranked Nigeria as the 140th most corrupt country in the world.

Nigeria shares this ranking with countries such as Uganda, Mexico, Madagascar, Iraq, and Cameroon, all scoring 26 points on the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which was released on Tuesday.

Denmark topped the list as the least corrupt country with 90 points, followed by Finland with 88 points and Singapore with 84 points.

No African country made the top 10 of the least corrupt nations, which was dominated by European countries.

However, Cape Verde was ranked as the least corrupt African nation, coming in at number 35 with 62 points.

South Sudan, Somalia, and Venezuela were ranked as the most corrupt countries for the year.

Francois Valeria, the chair of Transparency International, commented that the 2024 CPI highlights the global issue of corruption and its detrimental impact on climate action, as it impedes efforts to reduce emissions and adapt to the effects of global warming.

The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories based on perceived levels of public sector corruption, using a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

Valeria further emphasized that while 32 countries have made significant strides in reducing corruption since 2012, many nations have either stagnated or worsened, with 148 countries showing no improvement.

He noted that over two-thirds of countries score below 50, and billions of people live in regions where corruption undermines human rights and hampers progress.
