Reps Debate Tax Reform Bills

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives began discussions on the four tax reform bills sent to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu in 2024.

The bills, which are set for a second reading in the Green Chamber, come six months after the President forwarded them to the National Assembly for review, following recommendations from the Taiwo Oyedele-led Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

The four bills include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.

The proposed tax reforms have sparked significant controversy and faced strong opposition from various groups, including northern governors and opposition politicians, who have called for the bills to be withdrawn from the National Assembly.
