MTN Nigeria has reversed its decision to increase the price of its controversial 15GB weekly data bundle after facing widespread backlash from subscribers.

Earlier this week, the telecom company raised the price of the promotional plan from N2,000 to N6,000, sparking a wave of criticism on social media.

In a message to customers on Thursday, MTN acknowledged the frustration caused by the sudden price hike.

“We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200 percent increase on your favourite digital bundle. We could share several reasons and provide explanations, but omo, all that one na story,” the company stated.

MTN apologized and asked subscribers to “forgive and forget,” reiterating its commitment to customer satisfaction.

A check of the MoMo and myMTN apps confirmed that the 15GB weekly bundle is no longer available.

This comes as Nigerian telecom operators, including MTN, begin implementing broader price increases for data and call services, following regulatory approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on January 20, which allowed operators to raise prices by up to 50 percent.
