Why I Butchered Student I Met On Facebook – Kwara ‘Cleric’

Abdulrahman Bello, a 29-year-old self-proclaimed Islamic preacher, has broken his silence on the brutal murder of Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education.

In a video alleged to have been taken at one of the state’s police stations, the suspect denied killing her for ritualistic reasons.

He did, however, admit to dismembering her body and discarding it in a dumpster. Bello, who claimed the deceased was his girlfriend, admitted that they met through Facebook.

Bello, who was kneeling in a gold “jalabiya” and giving his account of the occurrence while being questioned by voices in the video presumed to be police officers, stated that he was merely a victim of circumstance.

The incident began when the victim arrived at his home in Olunlade, Ilọrin, after attending an event.

“She said she was hungry and I went to get her food, only to return and found her gasping for breath.

“She shockingly passed out shortly after. I couldn’t cry out for help so I dismembered her body and disposed of it at a public refuse dump in the area. I was confused about what to do in that instance and couldn’t think of any better way. This is my first time, I have never done something like this before”, he added.

Bello, who spoke in Yoruba, identified himself as a ‘alfa’ (Muslim cleric), adding that he was about to be admitted to Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.
