Yunusa Umar, the Deputy Chairman of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dass local government area of Bauchi State, has led over 7,500 party members to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Among those who followed Umar to the PDP are the APC Youth Leader of the local government, Yusuf Inuwa Bora, and the Welfare Secretary, Isah Zakaria.
The defectors were officially welcomed into their new party on Sunday by the PDP Chairman in Dass, Hon. Yusuf Sabo, and the Chairman of the local government council, Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Jibo.

Umar cited the impressive performance of Governor Bala Mohammed as the main reason for their defection, praising his people-focused policies and programs since taking office in 2019, which he said have had a positive impact on the citizens.
“Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies have convinced us to join the PDP. As politicians, our priority is the welfare of our supporters, and we have seen that the PDP genuinely cares for the people. There was no reason to hesitate any longer,” Umar remarked.
He also pledged that the new members would not only mobilize votes for the PDP in the next elections but would actively contribute to the party’s growth and development in the state.
Other defectors echoed similar sentiments, praising Governor Mohammed’s development efforts and noting that they had benefited more under his administration than under former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, who comes from the constituency.
The defectors also lauded the performance of the local government chairman, Hon. Jibo, and promised continued support for his administration.
Hon. Jibo referred to the defection as a significant development, emphasizing that despite challenges, Governor Mohammed’s administration remains committed to advancing Bauchi State.
He assured the new PDP members that they would be fully integrated into the party and encouraged them to collaborate with his administration for the progress of Dass local government.
