The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has stated that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, deliberately chose not to attend the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
Morka explained that El-Rufai, who previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, had every right to participate in the meeting like any other NEC member but opted not to be present.
It is worth recalling that APC leaders gathered at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja for the NEC meeting, the first since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

The meeting was well attended by all members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and representatives from various party organs.
Key figures present included President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
El-Rufai’s absence follows his recent criticism of the ruling party during an interview on Arise News, where he accused the APC of lacking internal democracy and failing to comply with its constitution by not convening a NEC meeting earlier.
When informed that the party had scheduled a NEC meeting for Wednesday, El-Rufai claimed he had not received an invitation and insisted that such notices should have been sent well in advance.
However, during an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Wednesday, Morka clarified that invitations were sent to all party leaders, including El-Rufai, many of whom attended the meeting.
He said, “Today, you know, there was a roll call of eminent members who attended this meeting today. The same way notice was sent to El-Rufai I believe, was how notices were sent to these other members who got the notices and attended.
“Many of them don’t live in Abuja but they made plans and traveled to be at this meeting today. If El-Rufai, you know, wanted to be at the meeting, I bet you, he would have come.
“By the way, let me not say this, because I don’t know how to check. I don’t know if he’s a member of NEC. Of certainly a member of caucus, but I don’t know that he’s a member of NEC. I mean, I doubt that.”
