Former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa stated that any politician with sufficient funds can easily secure electoral victory in Nigeria.
He pointed out that Nigeria’s political system allows wealthy politicians to influence key institutions like the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, and the military, enabling them to win elections.
Udenwa made these comments while appearing on Edmund Obilo’s *State Affairs* political podcast. He observed that Nigerians no longer scrutinize the character, background, or qualifications of politicians who seek their votes.
“Sadly, our society has reached a point where, if you say ‘vote for me,’ people don’t ask anymore: ‘What can you do? What is your track record? What kind of person are you?’ Those questions are no longer asked. And even if I don’t vote for you, you can still buy your way in if you have enough money,” Udenwa said.

When questioned about whether politicians could buy the support of INEC, the police, the military, and the voters, Udenwa replied, “You can buy everybody.”
He emphasized that elections in Nigeria are driven by money, stating that this practice must be addressed for the right leaders to emerge.
Regarding the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Udenwa, a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, attributed the situation to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
While he acknowledged the internal issues within the PDP, Udenwa suggested that external forces were contributing to the party’s difficulties.
“There are external forces trying to destroy the PDP through internal conflicts. We are still dealing with the issue, but I believe the PDP will not be destroyed.”
Udenwa added that the PDP is aware of the APC’s involvement in the party’s ongoing troubles, but he declined to name the individuals the ruling party allegedly uses to destabilize the opposition.
