Natasha Files Sexual Harassment Petition Against Akpabio At Plenary

On Wednesday, the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, formally presented a petition to the Senate against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of sexual harassment.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, speaking under Order 40 of the Senate Rules, stated that she had previously raised the allegations during an interview on Arise TV and was now officially bringing them before the Senate.

In response, Akpabio allowed her to proceed with the submission, which she did. The petition was promptly referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct for review.

Earlier during the plenary session, Akpabio denied the allegations, asserting that he had never harassed any woman.

“At no point have I ever harassed any woman. I was raised well by my late single mother and have always shown respect for women. I was even honored as the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria,” he said.

The Senate President, acknowledging the numerous calls he had received about the matter since February 25, also mentioned being aware of the heated discussions on social media.

However, he urged Nigerians to avoid jumping to conclusions and to allow the legal process to unfold.
