Suspension Alone Is Not Enough – Akpabio’s Kinsmen Highlights Things That Should Happen To Natasha

Kinsmen of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, organized under the Afe Annang, a prominent socio-cultural group of the Annang nation, have expressed their displeasure with the six-month suspension imposed on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

They argue that the suspension does not adequately address what they view as disrespect towards the Senate.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, was suspended for six months due to a breach of Senate rules after she accused Akpabio of sexual harassment.

The suspension also involves the withdrawal of her salary and privileges.

During a media interaction in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, His Majesty Obong Blaise Awakama, the Atai Afe Annang, along with other Annang elders, stated that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan should have been recalled by her constituents and provided with proper guidance instead of being suspended.

He remarked, “Suspension alone is not enough; her constituents should recall her, provide proper guidance, and replace her with someone more suitable.”

The elders emphasized that every ethnic group is represented in the Senate and cautioned against using any female senator to tarnish the reputation of the Senate President. They reiterated their full support for Akpabio.

“Every senator represents a people. Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio represents the people of the Annang Nation, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State,” said Awakama. “He also represents the entire nation as Senate President, and we are proud of him and stand by him. No female senator should be used to defame him.”

They also warned against any efforts to remove Akpabio from office, asserting that they would resist such a move.

The Annang nation further stressed that false claims of sexual harassment should not be used as a tool for political persecution.

Awakama added that any political scheme to remove Akpabio from office would be opposed by the Annang nation, emphasizing that the Annang people have made significant contributions to Nigeria and that their son, the Senate President, deserves to be treated with honor and respect.
