President Bola Tinubu has appointed six new Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for Federal Government-owned hospitals in various locations, including Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafia, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan.
This announcement was made on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints six chief medical directors for federal hospitals.’
The new CMDs include Prof. Olusegun Ojo, appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State.
The presidency recognized Ojo as a “seasoned medical professional” who had previously served as the first Chief Medical Director of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.

Prof. Yusuf Abdullahi was reappointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, following his exceptional performance during his first term.
Onanuga noted that Abdullahi’s reappointment reflects his outstanding leadership and contributions to the hospital’s development.
Dr. Dauda Katagum, the Acting Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Azare, Bauchi State, was confirmed as the substantive CMD.
Dr. Ikrama Hassan was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Hassan, a consultant physician, had previously served as the Medical Director of Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its elevation to a teaching hospital.
Dr. Ali Ramat, a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon, was appointed the Chief Medical Director of the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Dr. Haruna Shehu, a Consultant Family Physician, was also appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
All appointments are for four years, effective from the respective dates of assumption of office. Abdullahi’s second term as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, began on September 5, 2024, while Katagum’s tenure at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Azare started on December 6, 2024.
The President congratulated the newly appointed and reappointed CMDs and urged them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery.
He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that all Nigerians have access to quality medical services.
