State governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected claims that five of their members are backing a presidential ticket featuring Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi for the 2027 elections.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the group emphasized their commitment to supporting whoever becomes the party’s official candidate.
Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the Forum’s director general, responded to the rumors, stating that such speculations are common in politics.
He further explained that the governors would not allow “enemies of progress” or “agents of confusion” to mislead the public and create false conclusions.
Agbo clarified, “The PDP Governors’ Forum does not align with these individuals, nor does it engage with any political discussions about auctioning the PDP to opportunistic figures allegedly supporting a Nasir El-Rufai/Peter Obi ticket for the 2027 election.”

He emphasized that all PDP organs are working on reconciliation and reinforcing the party’s progress at the regional level to improve the lives of citizens.
He continued, criticizing detractors who, frustrated by the PDP governors’ efforts to alleviate economic hardships despite opposition from the ruling APC, are attempting to undermine their success.
Agbo added that those dissatisfied with their own faction’s weak results are now confronting the governors in an attempt to create division within the opposition.
Their ultimate goal is to weaken democratic institutions, misinterpret the law, and enforce a dictatorship and one-party rule.
The Forum’s principles are centered on equity, social justice, accountability, a fair electoral process, and improving the lives of the people.
Agbo concluded, “The PDP Governors will, without reservation, support whoever emerges as our party’s flag-bearer in the 2027 elections, as we strive to replace the non-performing current government. The ideals of our party’s founders will not be in vain.”
