Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his displeasure over the actions of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which prevented him from entering the Assembly quarters on Wednesday.
Speaking to residents of Khana Local Government Area during the commissioning of health facilities shortly after the incident, Fubara maintained that he had informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule of his plan to visit the lawmakers before arriving at the quarters.
His visit was intended to re-present the 2025 Budget, as directed by the Assembly following the Supreme Court’s ruling on February 28, 2025.
“I still believe, maybe, they might be instructed later. If they are instructed, I’m still ready to come any day to get this particular issue sorted out,” the governor said.

On Friday, February 28, 2025, the Supreme Court issued several rulings regarding the prolonged political crisis in the oil-rich South-South state.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye, the five-member panel of the court unanimously rejected Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cross-appeal, which challenged the legitimacy of the House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule.
By dismissing Fubara’s appeal, the court directed Amaewhule to reconvene the Assembly immediately with other duly elected lawmakers. Additionally, the court prohibited the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Accountant General of the Federation, and other financial agencies from disbursing funds to the Rivers State Government until it complied with court orders, which the court described as being blatantly disregarded.
The Supreme Court also nullified the local government election held in Rivers State on October 5, 2024.
In response, Fubara pledged to fully implement the court’s rulings and instructed the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to outline plans for a fresh election.
RSIEC subsequently scheduled the new local government polls for August 9, 2025.
Following this, the Assembly issued an arrest warrant for RSIEC Chairman, retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, for failing to appear before the House.
Meanwhile, in a letter dated March 7, 2025, Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, requested a meeting with lawmakers on March 10, 2025, to discuss the re-presentation of the 2025 budget and initiate peace talks.
However, the Assembly insisted that the governor must follow the proper procedures for such an invitation.
