Rivers Assembly Adjourns Sittings Indefinitely

The Rivers State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended its sittings.

The decision to adjourn legislative activities was made during a plenary session led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule in Port Harcourt on Friday.

This move came shortly after the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, sent a letter to the Speaker, notifying him of his plans to visit the House to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for consideration and approval.

In the letter dated March 13, addressed to Speaker Amaewhule, the governor stated that he intended to present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or on any other day in March that the House might find suitable.

Fubara explained that his decision was in line with the Supreme Court ruling and in response to lawmakers’ request for him to re-present the budget.

He also recalled the unpleasant experience of trying to present the budget at the Assembly Quarters, where, despite being accompanied by his entourage, he was denied access to the complex.
