Trump Weighs Travel Ban On 41 Countries

The Trump administration is exploring a new travel ban that could severely restrict entry for citizens from 41 countries.

According to leaked information, these countries are categorized into three tiers:

  • Tier 1 (Full Visa Suspension): 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba, and North Korea, would face a complete halt to visa issuance.
  • Tier 2 (Partial Visa Suspension): 5 countries—Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan—would experience partial suspensions, primarily affecting tourist, student, and immigrant visas, with potential exceptions.
  • Tier 3 (Conditional Partial Suspension): 26 countries, including Belarus, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan, could have their U.S. visa issuance partially suspended if they fail to address identified security deficiencies within 60 days.

An unnamed U.S. official emphasized that this list is subject to change and requires approval from the administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

This initiative is reminiscent of President Trump’s earlier travel ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority nations, which faced legal challenges before being upheld by the Supreme Court.

The current potential ban stems from an executive order issued by Trump, mandating stricter security vetting for foreign nationals seeking entry into the U.S.

The order directed cabinet members to identify countries with inadequate vetting procedures, leading to the proposed list of 41 nations.

This measure is part of a broader immigration crackdown initiated by Trump during his second term, with prior indications of his intent to target countries deemed security threats.
