Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it an act of “political manipulation and bad faith.”
He accused Tinubu of actively taking sides in the state’s political conflict, alleging that his administration either facilitated the crisis or failed to prevent it.
“His blatant refusal or calculated negligence in preventing this escalation is nothing short of disgraceful,” Atiku said in a statement on Tuesday via X.

He also condemned the security lapses that resulted in the destruction of national infrastructure in Rivers State, asserting that the President bears full responsibility.
“If federal infrastructure in Rivers has been compromised, the President bears full responsibility,” he said.
“Punishing the people of Rivers State just to serve the political gamesmanship between the governor and Tinubu’s enablers in the Federal Government is nothing less than an assault on democracy and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he added.
Atiku further accused Tinubu of undoing the stability achieved in the Niger Delta under former President Umaru Yar’Adua, claiming that his administration has plunged the region back into a period of violence and instability.
He urged Nigerians to resist what he described as a political agenda, stressing that the crisis in Rivers State should not be exploited for partisan gain.
