House Of Reps Vote Overwhelmingly In Support Of Emergency Rule In Rivers

The House of Representatives has strongly supported the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months due to the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Two days later, Tinubu sought approval from the National Assembly for the emergency rule declaration.

During a plenary session on Thursday, Speaker Tajudeen Abbass read the president’s letter.

When the matter was put to a voice vote, the lawmakers overwhelmingly endorsed President Tinubu’s decision.

Abbass confirmed that 240 lawmakers were present, ensuring a quorum.
