Senate In Emergency Session Over Emergency Rule In Rivers

The Senate has begun a closed-door meeting to discuss President Tinubu’s request for constitutional approval of the state of emergency in Rivers State.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved to prioritize the request.

Senator Seriake Dickson then raised a point of order, leading to a brief exchange with Senate President Akpabio.

Senator Dickson clarified that he wanted to invoke Senate Rule Order 133, which mandates a closed-door briefing by the Senate President on the circumstances surrounding a state of emergency proclamation.

Following this, the Senate went into a closed-door executive session.
