How Kogi Government Is Sponsoring Natasha’s Recall – Lawyer

Victor Giwa, a lawyer representing Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has alleged that the Kogi State Government is behind the move to recall the suspended senator from her position representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.

Giwa, speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily” on Tuesday, claimed that Charity Omole, an aide to Governor Usman Ododo, is spearheading the recall effort on behalf of the state government.

This development follows Akpoti-Uduaghan’s dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements and her accusations of sexual harassment and abuse of office, which led to her six-month suspension by the Senate.

On Monday, March 24, 2025, Omole led a group of constituents from Kogi Central to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to submit a petition for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall.

Giwa argues that this recall process is politically driven by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Kogi State, targeting the suspended senator, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The truth of the matter is that there is no way the recall process can go through except it is done fraudulently,” Giwa said, adding that the process takes about 15 stages and “it is a tortuous and practically impossible process”.

Victor Giwa criticized the grounds for the recall attempt against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, arguing that it is not based on her performance or any specific policy issues, but rather stems from her accusations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He further alleged that the Kogi State Government is orchestrating the recall process through Charity Omole.

He said, “In this case, the lady that led that protest is the senior special assistant to the governor of Kogi State on women and youths. You will see that is government-sponsored recall.

“Charity Ijese Omole is currently the senior special assistant to the governor of Kogi State on women and youths. It is more or less the government sponsoring this process, not the constituents, and that fundamentally has faulted the process.

“The process of recall must be such that is initiated from the constituents but in this case, we can see the handwriting on the wall; it is the governor that is trying to do whatever they claim they are doing.”
