Why I’m Very Angry With Putin – Trump

According to an NBC report, former US President Donald Trump expressed “very angry, pissed off” sentiments towards Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, signaling a potential shift in his approach to the Ukraine conflict.

NBC’s Kristen Welker reported that Trump had contacted her to convey his anger regarding Putin’s recent remarks questioning Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s legitimacy, a sentiment Trump himself has previously echoed.

During a phone conversation with Welker, Trump stated that if he and Russia fail to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, and if he deems Russia responsible for the continued conflict, he would impose secondary tariffs on all Russian oil exports.

Trump told NBC that Putin is aware of his anger, but maintained that he has “a very good relationship with him” and that “the anger dissipates quickly… if he does the right thing.”

This development comes amidst ongoing efforts by the US to broker an end to the war in Ukraine, which has persisted for over three years. Despite these efforts, negotiations have yet to yield a breakthrough.

Putin recently rejected a joint US-Ukrainian proposal for a 30-day ceasefire and suggested that Zelensky be removed from office as part of a peace process.

The report also highlighted the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with Russian forces reportedly capturing a village near the Dnipropetrovsk region and continuing attacks on Kharkiv.3

Zelensky, in his address, urged Ukraine’s allies to exert greater pressure on Russia to achieve a ceasefire.

Trump explained that the proposed secondary tariffs would effectively prevent any entity purchasing Russian oil from conducting business in the United States.

He mentioned tariffs ranging from 25 to 50 percent on all Russian oil, without providing further specifics.
