Profile Of New Alaafin Of Oyo Oba Owoade

Oba Abimbola Owoade has been installed as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, succeeding Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the 45th Alaafin, who passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.

The new Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, was born 47 years ago into the distinguished Owoade-Agunloye royal lineage in Oyo Town.

He is a son of Aremo Aderounmu Iyanda Owoade from the Agure Compound in ancient Oyo Town.

Oba Owoade completed his secondary education at Baptist High School in Saki. His father was involved in agricultural development in the Oke-Ogun region.

The new Alaafin pursued higher education in Mechanical Engineering, obtaining his National Diploma from Federal Polytechnic Ilaro (1994-1997) and his Higher National Diploma from The Polytechnic, Ibadan (1999-2001).

He completed his NYSC in 2002 with the Nigeria Gas Company.

He then worked at Oceanic Bank International Plc in Warri (2003-2004) before furthering his education abroad.

Oba Owoade earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sunderland (2008) and Northumbria University (2012).

He also became a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) in 2015.

He held a Planning Engineering role at Oil Reach Company in Glasgow, UK, for several years before relocating to Canada.

Prior to his ascension to the throne, Oba Owoade 1 was the Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro in Canada, a major utility provider.

He is also a Nigerian and Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist, serving as the President of Manitoba Limited and owning a real estate investment and financial services business in Manitoba, Canada.
