The young demonstrators reportedly told the police officers, who cautioned them against holding the protest, that “Nobody can tell us where not to gather, we are Rivers people.”
Police then pursued the protesters, physically assaulting some of them, including journalists covering the event.
The protesters had earlier indicated to the police that they had notified the command of their intention to stage the demonstration in a letter dated April 3, 2025.
