Trouble As Zulum Makes Disturbing Revelation On Boko Haram In Borno

Governor Babagana Zulum has publicly expressed his concern over the recent surge in Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings occurring frequently in numerous communities without significant resistance.

He stated on Tuesday that this situation indicates a setback in the security gains previously made in Borno State.

The governor made these remarks at a Special Expanded Security Meeting (ESM) attended by key security figures including the General Officer Commanding 7 Div, Major General Abubakar Haruna, Sector Commanders, the Commissioner of Police, heads of other security organizations, the Shehu of Borno, Alh. Dr. Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Bama, and the Emirs of Biu, Uba, Askira, and Gwoza. The Shehu of Dikwa and the Emir of Shani were not present.

Governor Zulum highlighted his administration’s strong support for the military in their efforts against Boko Haram and other terrorists, which had resulted in a period of relative peace over the past three years.

However, he expressed deep concern over the recent attacks and the displacement of military units in areas such as Wajirko and Sabon Gari in Damboa local government, Wulgo in Gamboru Ngala, and Izge in Gwoza local government, alongside the related killings of innocent civilians and security personnel.

He described these events as a serious setback for the fragile peace in Borno and the wider North East region.

In his opening address, Governor Zulum acknowledged the Federal Government’s support under President Bola Tinubu and commended the security agencies for their continued efforts in the fight against Boko Haram.

He emphasized the need for increased efforts, including providing the military with better equipment and deploying advanced technological warfare, to counter the renewed attacks affecting parts of Borno State that border Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

“As I address this important gathering today, it is unfortunate that the renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings in many communities almost on a daily basis without confrontation signalled that Borno State is losing ground,” he stated.

“As you are all aware my administration has been very supportive of the military and other security agencies in the fight against Boko Haram and other terrorists leading to relative peace in the last three years, it is disheartening to note the recent attacks and dislodgement of military formations in Wajirko, Sabon Gari in Damboa local government, Wulgo in Gamboru Ngala, Izge in Gwoza local government areas among other related killing of innocent civilians and security agencies calls for serious concern, and it is a set back in the fragile state of Borno and the North East region.

“In as much as Borno Government under my leadership commend the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies for their unwavering support in the fight against Boko Haram,  more efforts have to be put in place through equipping and deploying of technological warfare to the military to stem the tide of all renewed attacks bedevilling parts of the sahelian Borno which shares international border with three African countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroon.”

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, the Shehu of Borno acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in combating terrorism.

However, he emphasized that approximately three local government areas – Guzamala, Marte, and Abbadam – along with parts of Mobbar, remain completely under the control of Boko Haram, noting the absence of civil authority in most of these communities.

He also appealed to the Federal Government to reconstruct the deteriorated federal roads connecting Biu-Damboa-Maiduguri, Maiduguri-Dikwa-Ngala, Maiduguri-Monguno-Kukawa, and Biu-Damaturu, among others.
