Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, held a dinner in the United Kingdom on Monday for the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, announced on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday that the minister hosted the lawmakers, who are in the UK for “legislative capacity building.”
Olayinka also noted that Wike had traveled to the UK on Sunday night after visiting political allies in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

It was reported on Sunday that the suspended Rivers lawmakers, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, had left Nigeria for a tour in the United Kingdom.
Amaewhule had reportedly opened the 10th Rivers Assembly Legislative Tour of the UK on Friday, stating that the tour would provide opportunities for the lawmakers to gain new insights and enhance their capabilities.
This development occurs amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State. On March 18th, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Prof.
Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly. He also appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), as sole administrator for an initial six-month term.
This action followed the escalating power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Minister Wike.
