Ganduje, APC NWC Members Visit Buhari Hours After Atiku, El-Rufai, Tambuwal, Other Top Political Figures Visited Former President In Kaduna

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, led members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State on Friday.

This visit occurred just hours after Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, headed a delegation of opposition figures to pay their respects to the former president for the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

That earlier delegation included former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, former Adamawa State Governor Jibrilla Bindow, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, and former Minister of Communications Isa Pantami.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, El-Rufai reiterated that their visit to the former president was not political, urging those he called “adversaries” not to be concerned.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory added that the purpose of their visit was “unity and brotherhood.”

While the specific outcomes of the APC NWC’s visit are unknown, there have been increasing concerns about a potential split within the APC, particularly regarding the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction, following the defection of some party members to the Social Democratic Party.

The CPC was one of the four political parties that merged in 2013 to form the APC, and Buhari was a prominent member of the CPC faction. Despite these speculations, Buhari has publicly stated that he will never leave the APC.
