Why We Visited Buhari – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar led a group of prominent politicians on a courtesy visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence on Friday.

Atiku clarified that the visit was primarily to celebrate Eid al-Fitr (Sallah) and was not related to any discussions about forming a coalition of political parties to create a stronger opposition.

The visit was considered notable, especially concerning the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The delegation included former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, among other well-known political figures.

Atiku explained that he was unable to make Sallah visits earlier due to commitments in Adamawa State, where he represented the Lamido Fombina (Adamawa), HRH Dr. Muhammadu Musdafa.

Speaking to journalists, Atiku described the visit as a courtesy call to extend Sallah greetings to former President Buhari.

“We came here on a courtesy and Sallah greetings visit to President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

When questioned about plans to form a major opposition party, Atiku acknowledged that discussions were ongoing but emphasized that this was not the purpose of their visit.

“There is a plan for the major political parties to come together and form a strong opposition, but it is not part of this visit,” Atiku stated.
