Members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared that they will not be leaving the party.
The bloc, led by former Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, pledged their allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Al-Makura and 22 other CPC bloc members signed a statement urging any aggrieved members within their faction to utilize the APC’s internal mechanisms to address their grievances.

Signatories to the statement, besides Al-Makura, included former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari; Mallam Adamu Adamu, Senator Ibrahim Musa, Senator Mustafa Salihu, Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu, Hon. Almajiri Geidam, Arc. Waziri Bulama, Dr. Nasiru Ladan Argungu, Dr. Dominic Alancha, Hon. Ayuba Balami, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, and Chief Okoi Obono-Obla.
Other signatories were Hon. Lucy Ajayi, Captain Bala Jibrin, Hon. Uche Ufearoh, Alh. Yusuf Salihu, Hon. Abubakar Maikudi, Engr. Mutallib Badmus, Alh. Muhammed Ahmed Datti, Hon. Muhammed Etsu, Chief Jerry Johnson, and Alh. Alkali Ajikolo.
The APC was formed in 2013 through the merger of the CPC, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and a faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) known as the nPDP.
Despite indications that some CPC bloc members were planning to leave the APC due to alleged unfair treatment, the Al-Makura-led group stated, “We categorically state that we have neither left the APC nor do we intend to leave. The CPC bloc remains one of the APC’s foundational pillars, and we are resolute in our commitment to the party and its progressive ideals.”
They emphasized their pride in the sacrifices made to build the APC as a platform for national unity, justice, and development, and asserted they would not allow individuals to dismantle the party they helped create.
The group condemned attempts to create division within the party and the country, stating that these actions do not reflect the views of genuine CPC core members and are unacceptable.
While acknowledging that some members might feel marginalized, they pointed out that such concerns are not unique to any single bloc and encouraged those affected to seek resolution through the party’s established constitutional channels instead of public agitation or hasty exits.
Regarding President Tinubu’s performance, they expressed their full support for his economic and governance reforms, acknowledging potential challenges but emphasizing their crucial role in rebuilding the economy and securing a prosperous future for all Nigerians. They urged patience and collective support as the benefits of these policies materialize.
The group stressed that at this critical juncture in Nigeria’s democracy, all APC members, particularly those deeply involved in the party’s formation, must work together to preserve its legacy and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy, urging the avoidance of actions that could undermine unity and national stability.
The stakeholders also called on the APC leadership to increase engagement with members at all levels, believing that stronger internal communication would foster inclusiveness, reduce tensions, and enhance support for the party’s programs.
“Party unity must be continuously nurtured to sustain past gains and secure a prosperous future. We therefore reaffirm our loyalty to the APC and our steadfast support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The CPC family remains a crucial pillar of the APC and will continue to play a responsible role in its growth and Nigeria’s progress,” the statement concluded.
