‘Deal With Social Media As Terrorist Organisation’ – Sultan Tells Security Agencies

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar III, referred to social media as a “terrorist organisation” in a speech delivered on Wednesday, calling on security agencies to tackle its harmful impact.

In a video shared by News Central, the respected Nigerian traditional ruler condemned social media for promoting misinformation capable of unsettling society.

“What happened has happened. You cannot come and be doing social media because that is one terrorist organisation.

“Social media is a terrorist organisation. What they do; somebody will sit down in his comfort zone and formulate stories, and you will discover that it is not true,” the Sultan stated.

The Sultan’s appeal highlights the importance of tackling misinformation, which he believes is widely disseminated by people creating misleading content on the internet.

“So, social media is a terrorist organisation that we must deal with. Security agencies must deal with this terrorist organisation called social media,” he reiterated.
