Makinde Predicts What Will Happen To APC In 2027 Election

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has predicted that the 2027 presidential election will be a contest between the Nigerian people and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), rather than a traditional APC versus Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) matchup.

“The 2027 election won’t be PDP versus APC; it would be Nigerians versus APC. Mark my word on that,” the governor stated on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Tuesday.

Makinde attributed the country’s struggling economy and worsening security situation to the APC government, suggesting that the next election will serve as a referendum on President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The Oyo governor asserted that the PDP remains the hope for ordinary Nigerians, emphasizing that the party will avoid the errors that led to its defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

Reflecting on the previous election, Makinde acknowledged that the PDP made a significant mistake by allocating the presidential ticket, national chairman position, and director-general of the presidential campaign solely to members from the northern region.

He argued that this exclusion of southerners from these key roles was a self-inflicted wound that contributed to the party’s electoral loss.

In the lead-up to the 2023 election, Iyorchia Ayu from the North Central held the PDP national chairmanship, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the North East was the party’s presidential candidate, and Aminu Tambuwal from the North West served as Atiku’s campaign director general.

“If the three main influential positions to take us to the election were occupied by the North East, the North Central, and the North West, how do we sell that position all around the country?” Makinde argued.
