Former APC Chairman Resigns From Party

Dr. Ben Nwoye, the immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, has officially resigned from the party.

Announcing his decision at a press conference on Thursday, Nwoye cited the collapse of party leadership in Enugu as his main reason for leaving.

He noted that the choice was made after thorough consultations with his supporters and other stakeholders, although he did not reveal his next political move.

“The broom we carefully tied together in 2013, even when we were ridiculed, has now completely unraveled,” he said.

Nwoye criticized the APC’s South-East leadership, accusing them of engaging in vindictive politics rather than focusing on expanding the party’s influence in the region, which currently controls just two states.

He alleged that the regional leaders are more focused on oppressing perceived internal opponents than promoting the party’s core values of justice, peace, and unity, adding that the zone’s leadership had “completely lost direction.”

He also took aim at the national leadership of the APC, accusing them of being complacent and indifferent due to their grip on federal power.

According to him, this has allowed internal conflicts to fester and destroy the party’s structure in Enugu.

“To make matters worse, appeals by party elders for reconciliation are often ignored or dismissed with disdain. Loyal members advocating for unity are treated as if they are political adversaries,” he said.

Nwoye concluded by saying he had made the decision after thoughtful dialogue with his grassroots base.

“I am not a political prisoner, never have been, and never will be,” he declared.
