All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed optimism on Thursday that the ruling party will secure victory in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, during the 2027 general elections.
Ganduje asserted that the APC is poised to win not only the presidential election but also the single senatorial seat, currently held by Labour Party’s Ireti Kingibe, and the two House of Representatives seats in the FCT.
Despite being the ruling party, the APC lost the FCT, the seat of federal power, to the Labour Party’s Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
Obi also defeated the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in Lagos State, a key political stronghold for Tinubu.

However, speaking in Abuja on Thursday while welcoming a large number of defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Ganduje stated that the political landscape had shifted, and the APC now controls over 60% of the FCT, guaranteeing a significant victory in 2027.
Leading the defectors was the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, who reportedly crossed over to the APC along with 12 ward councillors and over 20,000 supporters.
They were received by Ganduje and Senate President Godswill Akpabio at a “Unity Rally” held in Abuja on Thursday.
Addressing the attendees, Ganduje declared that with this recent political shift, the APC is now positioned to produce the FCT’s sole senator and its two members of the House of Representatives.

He said, “Ladies and gentlemen, as part of that Renewed Hope Agenda, today we have started seeing that FCT will be converted to the APC. Today we have a great political giant, we have the Chairman of AMAC, which is the most popular local government in the Federal Capital Territory.
“The chairman with all his elected councilors, with all his appointees, with all the politicians from PDP, they have decided to come to our great party, the APC. He has come with his thousands of supporters.
“Also, we have decampees from Bwari Area Council. We have decampees from Kuje Area Council, we have decampees from Abaji Area Council, we have decampees from Kwali Area Council, we have decampees from Gwagwala Area Council. Almost all the politicians, all the people, more than 60% of the Federal Capital Territory, is now APC.”
